The politics of educational decentralisation in Thailand
This is an area studies thesis exploring the politics of policy implementation through the case study of the Thai education reform and decentralisation policy initiated in the late 1990s. It examines both the Ministry of Education’s internal deconcentration process to educational service areas as well as the transfer of schools and personnel to local administrative organisations. The thesis analyses the influence of the interests and authority of national and local politicians, permanent bureaucrats, academics, and teacher vote canvassers on the reform process.
