Padraig Flynn: a case study in supranational political entrepreneurship
John is a senior lecturer in EU Politics and Social Policy at Leeds Metropolitan University. Previously, he advised the former leader of the Irish Labour Party, Ruairi Quinn, on EU labour mobility policies. His research has included issues as diverse as EU labour markets, minorities and mental health, women and ICT, barriers to employment and obstacles to adult lifelong learning. His current research centres around the completion of his PhD which explores the role of individual agency (supranational leadership) within the European Commission. A case study focusing on the achievements and policy preferences of former Commissioner for Social Affairs, Padraig Flynn, forms the centre piece of his analysis.
He has a BA (Hons) in Politics from Queen's University Belfast and an MA in European Social Policy Analysis - National University of Ireland (Maynooth).
