Studying in Leeds

Our campus

Our campus allows you to relax and study in a peaceful environment, free from the immediate stresses of busy commercial streets and traffic noise.

A fifteen minute walk from the centre of Leeds, our grounds cover ninety-eight largely pedestrianised acres. Boasting a wonderful mix of architectural styles, our campus has mature trees and green space that is just perfect for summer book reading or sipping a coffee in the sun.

As most of our facilities are on site, you will have easy access to our library and computer facilities, as well as our campus convenience shops, gift and clothes shops, bookshop, bars, cafes, clubs and restaurants.

We also have an activities resource centre, an advice centre, and an employment service in our union building. Our new fitness, sport and wellbeing complex (complete with swimming pool), the Edge is located on campus, providing you with the opportunity to pursue your favourite sport, or simply keep fit.

Our city

Leeds is a city with the cultural and heritage landmarks of a metropolis but the feel of a friendly, vibrant town.

Creative culture thrives in this atmosphere. Leeds is home to the innovative Phoenix Dance Company, the traditional music hall City Varieties and the largest repertory theatre outside London and Stratford, the West Yorkshire Playhouse.

When it comes to art and curiosities, the Henry Moore Institute is just down the road from campus, the City Art Gallery features Hockney and Hirst, and we've a tropical world in Roundhay Park. Mix those perfect places with Thackray's ghoulish medical museum, the swords and guns of the Royal Armouries, and the famous Yorkshire Sculpture Park, and you can see why the city has so much to offer.

Not only that, but Leeds knows fashion and style. Voted fourth best UK city by Conde Nast Traveller readers, Leeds has a shopping spectrum that spans from designer ultraviolet to bargain infrared.

But don't let this glossy picture deceive you into thinking Leeds is an expensive place to live -- quite the opposite. According to The Times Good University Guide 2008, Leeds is the most cost-effective UK city in which to study.

Our economy is booming and there are many opportunities for part-time work in our bars, restaurants and shops should you need to shore up your coffers.

Leeds climbs student experience rankings

The 2009 Times Higher Education’s student experience poll, published 14 January 2010 sees Leeds move to 7th place, up from number 11 in 2008.

More than 11,000 full-time undergraduate students gave their views on every aspect of university life, from the quality of teaching to student support, social life and institutional facilities.

Unlike other surveys in this field, the attributes rated by students were chosen by students themselves, allowing them to determine the factors they think contribute to a high-quality student experience.

For the category 'I would recommend my university to a friend' we scored equal first with Oxford and Loughborough.
