BA Geography and Politics

Do you want to …

  • learn how we plan cities, regions and resources
  • discover geodemographics, and learn how to use data sources and spatial models to map human geography
  • consider how political power really operates in our society
  • and examine the great ideological revolutions of modern times?

If you do, then BA Geography and Politics could be the right course for you.

* this course is not recruiting for 2013/14

BA Geography and Politics will give you a firm grounding in the institutions and practices of modern political systems, and enable you to track the evolution of global politics from the rise of the modern state to the present day.

This course allows you to study the main political theories that structure our political systems, and the wider social forces that shape political life.

You will also examine key themes in contemporary human geography, and explore ideas in political, urban, social and development geography.

The course also offers the opportunity to examine geodemographics, learn about the Geographical Information Systems that build spatial models of human geography, and regional and urban planning.

In year one, the course will introduce you to key ideas and themes in geography and politics.

In year two, you will design your programme from a range of geography and politics modules that cover areas as disparate as water resources, retail geography, Russian politics, and the European Union.

In year three, you create your own programme, choosing geographic and political modules that allow you to specialise in your chosen areas of interest.
