Knowledge Exchange and the Social Sciences in English Universities

Photo of Mr Andrew Gunn

My research considers knowledge transfer and knowledge exchange in the social sciences; critical analysis of the knowledge economy concept and the idea of 'knowledge' as resource for development; the use of higher education policy as a form of industrial policy, the relationship between universities and the state, and analysing modern universities with an appreciation of the changing boundaries between 'the public and the private' and 'the state and the market'.

My publications all use political science and international political economy concepts in education policy contexts, covering a wide range of themes including: Higher Education policy development and implementation, affirmative action and widening participation, and how domestic education systems are transformed as developed economies adapt to competitive pressures.  I am a member of the Society for Research in Higher Education (SRHE).  I teach British Politics in POLIS.
