Before coming to the University of Leeds, I attended a pretty bad comprehensive school, and never dreamed of coming to a red brick university. I was inspired by a college teacher to pursue a degree in Politics.
Why I applied for BA Politics at Leeds
I fell in love with Leeds as soon as I visited, and knew the city would make a great home and study location. In addition, the BA Politics degree at Leeds was very unique in comparison to others, with lots of choice in modules and a variety of study avenues.
The aspect that I like most about the course is that fact that I have been able to study abroad. I wanted to see politics through the lens of a different country and culture, and Leeds gave me plenty of opportunity to do this. I also wanted to experience new things and challenge my preconceived limits more generally.
For my study placement, I went to METU (Middle East Technical University) in Ankara, Turkey. Here I had the best international relations teaching I have ever experienced, taught by leading academics in the Middle East. I also completed an internship at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. I also enjoyed living with a Turkish family and travelling.
I learned more about myself that I ever could have before studying abroad - and also that the Turkish people are the kindest people on the Earth! In addition, I realised that being in an international environment is incredible, and I am now the president of the International Erasmus Society.
