Professor Jocelyn Evans

Profile

My research interests lie principally in the field of voting behaviour, particularly in France and other European countries, and parties of the Radical Right, and have written over 50 articles on various aspects of electoral behaviour.

I have co-authored two books, with Gilles Ivaldi, on the 2012 and the 2017 French Presidential elections (Palgrave-Macmillan). I am the author of Voters and Voting: an Introduction (Sage, 2004); co-editor, with Kai Arzheimer, of Electoral Behaviour (Sage, 2008) in the Library of Political Science series; and co-editor, with Kai Arzheimer and Michael Lewis-Beck of the Sage Handbook of Electoral Behaviour (Sage, 2017).

I served as editor of Parliamentary Affairs between 2005 and 2011. I have held visiting research positions at the ZA-Eurolab in Cologne, Germany, and the CIDSP, Grenoble, France. I was UK principal investigator on an ESRC-ORA funded four-country comparative study of sub-national context and the Radical Right (SCoRE), and have worked as co-investigator on the two most recent Northern Ireland General Election Studies.

Research interests

I work principally on quantitative models of voting behaviour, particularly in France. I am currently looking at geographical effects on elections in the UK, and how voters evaluate candidates according to their location. I have a long-term interest in the European Extreme Right.
