Dr Christopher Byrne
Research Assistant in British Politics
Before coming to Leeds, I worked as a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Birmingham, which is also where I completed a PhD on the topic of neo-liberalism in British Politics.
I am currently working as Research Assistant to Prof. Kevin Theakston on a research project which aims to analyse the post-parliamentary roles and activities of MPs who left the House of Commons in 2010.
My core research interests lie in post-structuralist social and political theory, particularly as it relates to the concept of 'governmentality', and the theory and practice of political rhetoric, particularly as it relates to trends in British politics.
I currently teach on the first-year undergraduate module, British Politics, and the Masters module, Developments in British Politics.
