Research Interests

My research career has involved work on political parties in Spain and France and in the European Parliament. In addition I have carried out work on political leadership and on the nature of leadership in the western systems.

My research interests have broadly covered political parties on the political extremes, the extreme left, western socialists and party competition. In the past, my work has included the European parties and the development of leadership within party systems. I have recently become interested in the opening field of political leadership, particuarly, though not exclusively, as it pertains to party politcs.

As well as MA and PhD teaching, I have taught undergraduate modules on 'European Socialist Parties', on the idea of Europe and on western Communist Parties. I have also taught second year 'French Government' and third year 'Political leadership and Political parties'.

PhD Supervision

I have supervised PhDs on aspects of French and Spanish politics, European parties, social democratic parties and the extreme left. My past PhD supervision and interests have included extreme political parties in western systems, political competition, western socialism and the current problems of western socialist parties.
