Professor David S. Bell

Profile

I joined the University of Leeds from Sussex in 1979. I taught European politics and ran the MA in European Studies in the European School of the University of Sussex for four years.

My research career has involved work on political parties in Spain and France and in the European Parliament. In addition I have carried out work on political leadership and on the nature of leadership in the western systems.

Research interests

My research interests have broadly covered political parties on the political extremes, the extreme left, western socialists and party competition. In the past, my work has included the European parties and the development of leadership within party systems. I have recently become interested in the opening field of political leadership, particuarly, though not exclusively, as it pertains to party politcs.
