Adult Skills Development: Demanding a ‘radical’ new approach?

Photo of Dr Alice Jowett

Through the lens of the capability approach, my research seeks to offer an insight in to the individual and household agency factors that might facilitate or inhibit enrolment and continued participation in adult skills development programmes in developing countries.

Conceiving individual and household agency as a two-way relationship, it also investigates any changes that might occur as a result of participation. The study draws on primary research with adult participants of a conversational English skills development programme in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
