A turbulent period in Australian politics has led to Simon Birmingham taking over as Education Minister. Andrew Gunn, Researcher in Higher Education Policy, discusses how recent issues in Australian politics have impacted on education policy.

The article entitled ‘Four things the new minister should do on higher education’, takes a look at what went wrong with the previous administration’s education policy and suggests four things the new Education Minister should do with higher education.

Andrew Gunn suggests that ‘future ministers can learn from the mistakes made by the Abbott government’ and discusses how ‘policy development should involve learning from these experiences and other counties where university reform has been successfully achieved.’
