MA Development Studies student Simon Peter Nangabo aids the British Government's Africa team through an internship

MA Development Studies student Simon Peter Nangabo recently undertook a two-month placement in the East and Central Africa Unit of the Department for International Development.

MA Development Studies student Simon Peter Nangabo recently undertook a two month placement in the East and Central Africa Unit of the Department for International Development.

This was the second year that the Department for International Development had kindly hosted such a placement and, once again, it was a big success.

Simon Peter aided the work of the the East and Central Africa Unit team on a number of projects. In particular, he worked on the Somalia Health and Education Programme in supporting non-traditional donors on service delivery, and in the pan-Africa Strategy Department in reviewing and evaluating the long term impact of an adolescent sexual intervention programme in Mwanza, Tanzania. He also represented the East and Central Africa Unit at a speech by the Ugandan Foreign Affairs Minister at Chatham House.

Simon Peter said: "The Department for International Development has enabled me to broaden my knowledge, skills and experience." He feels his "CV has changed for the better."

He went to say he was very grateful to POLIS and the East and Central Africa Unit 'for this prestigious internship that has offered me an opportunity to work with the Department for International Development, one of the world's leading bilateral donor organisations'.

POLIS would also like to thank all the people in the Department for International Development that made this placement possible. We would also like to highlight our current MA students, and we hope to be able to offer a similar placement in 2008.
