Alfredo Saad-Filho (Department of Development Studies, SOAS, London)

Alfredo Saad-Filho is Professor of Political Economy at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London and was previously senior economic affairs officer at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. He has degrees in Economics from the Universities of Brasília (Brazil) and London (SOAS). He has taught in Brazil, Canada, Japan, Mozambique, Switzerland and the UK. His research interests include the political economy of development, industrial policy, neoliberalism, democracy, alternative economic policies, Latin American political and economic development, inflation and stabilisation, and the labour theory of value and its applications. Author of, amongst other things, with Ben Fine the highly acclaimed Marx's 'Capital', fifth edition. (2010); and edited The Elgar Companion to Marxist Economics. (2012) and with Galip Yalman  Economic Transitions to Neoliberalism in Middle-Income Countries: Policy Dilemmas, Economic Crises, Forms of Resistance. (2009)
