‘Africa Rising’: Electoral Politics and Development

09 December 2013 | 12:30pm - 4:30pm | Workshop

Beech Grove House Seminar Room

A recent narrative emerging from the world press and donors has been that of ‘Africa’s rising’: a period in which positive growth rates and the increasing frequency of electionsindicate significant progress for the continent. This YASN workshop will explore these claims, discussing recent elections and those on the immediate horizon, but also considering the longer historical relationship between electoral politics and development.

YASN is a co-operative initiative between the universities of Sheffield, York, Bradford and Leeds, and this event is sponsored by LUCAS.

The workshop is free to attend but please email african-studies@leeds.ac.uk to register your interest with 'YASN Workshop Attendance' in the subject line. Please include your name, affiliation, and whether student (postgraduate or undergraduate and year), academic staff, or other interest/organisation.

Refreshments will be provided mid-afternoon.
