Centre for Global Development Summer School: Crisis in Development? The Millennium Development Goals & the Post-2015 Agenda

The Centre for Global Development offers a Summer School for those interested in learning about international development from an interdisciplinary perspective. Students will participate in lectures and interactive workshops taught by experts in their fields drawn from six different Departments and Faculties at the University of Leeds. The sessions will provide students with an introduction to thinking about some of the most important issues in contemporary global development, and how these issues relate to the millennium development goals (MDGs) and the post-2015 agenda.

James Galbraith will discuss The Great Financial Crisis and how it is best seen as a turning point - the end of a long boom driven by cheap energy, stabilising public institutions and the rule of law in finance. These conditions were eroded by geophysical developments, the rise of China and India, the erosion of social protections and the rise of a confederal Europe, by new technologies and by the breakdown of law and regulation in the financial sector.
