About Robert Amsterdam
Robert Amsterdam is an international lawyer and partner of the law firm Amsterdam & Peroff. He has the worlds most widely read English language blog on Russian affairs and, as legal counsel to Mikhail Khodorkovsky, he has been involved in one of the most high profile cases in modern Russian history. Among others, he delivered speeches at Chatham House, Cato Institute, Carnegie Endowment, Stanford University, Harvard University, the Oxford Union, and the International Bar Association.
POLIS International Relations and Security Research Group - Research into international relations and security at the School of Politics and International Studies (POLIS) focuses on the threats and opportunities posed by the process of globalisation and its impact on the new international security environment. We embrace normative approaches to understand contemporary security challenges, and explore such specialised themes as 'energy security', nuclear proliferation and strategy, British and US foreign policy, terrorism and torture, urban insurgency, security governance in fragile states and post-Cold War conceptions of international society.
Research programme: The Politics of Energy Security - An original and comprehensive approach to an understanding of 'energy security' and how it impacts on the political relations within, between and across states by exploring the linkages between the evolving discourses on energy security, climate change and geopolitics.
All welcome to attend.
Level 11 is on the first floor of the Social Sciences Building.
