Working with Research Assistants/ Translators in Overseas Fieldwork
The Researchers in Development PhD Network (RiDNet), under the Centre for Global Development, held a seminar on ‘Working with Research Assistants/ Translators in Overseas Fieldwork’ on Thursday 23 February from 16:30-18:00 in Baines Wing Room 1.16.
The seminar explored the practicalities of working with research assistants in overseas fieldwork and each presenter discussed their experiences with research assistants/ translators.

Presenters:
Dr. Polly Wilding, School of Politics and International Studies
Polly is a lecturer in Gender and International Development at the School of Politics and International Studies. Her PhD was on gender and violence in Latin America and is titled: Civil War in Disguise: Gendered Responses to Everyday Violence in Brazil.
Dr Julia Leventon, School of Earth & Environment
Julia is a research fellow at the School of Earth & Environment. She completed her PhD at the Central European University in Hungary. Prior to beginning her academic career, she worked in environmental consultancy (EIA and renewable energy) in the UK, and for a non-profit organisation in Lima, Peru.
Nicola Favretto, School of Earth & Environment
Nicola is a PhD Student at the School of Earth and Environment, his PhD is titled Jatropha curcas energy crop cultivation: policy and livelihood implications in Mali.
Jennifer Dyer, School of Earth & Environment
Jennifer is a PhD student and research assistant at the School of Earth and Environment. For her PhD she assessed the potential of Jatropha curcas production to contribute towards livelihood sustainability at the household and village scale in rural areas of Malawi.
