Dr Zülküf Aydin
Senior Lecturer in Development Studies; Programme Director BA International Development

I am a senior lecturer in International Development. My research is of an interdisciplinary nature combining concepts and approaches from Politics, Sociology and Economics.
Before coming to Leeds, I was a lecturer in Sociology and Social Policy at Durham University. I have international teaching and research experience in Turkey, Jordan, Cyprus and Uzbekistan. I was the director of the Jordan Valley Project supported by the Ford Foundation.
Research Interests
I have carried out field work research in Turkey, Jordan, Uzbekistan and Northern Cyprus. My research interest includes rural transformation, internationalisation of agriculture and food security, the state and society in the Middle East, development strategies, development and ethnic conflict, development and Turkey's integration into the EU and the political, and socio-economic integration of migrants in Northern Cyprus.
Teaching
My teaching interests are political economy of rural transformation, policy issues in rural transformation, rural livelihoods, contemporary development issues, and social policy in developing countries. I teach 'Rural Development: Theoretical and Policy Issues' at both undergraduate and MA levels, contribute to 'Development Theories and Strategies' module offered at MA level, and teach a third year Dissertation module.
