Research-informed Teaching

Our research developments inform our teaching. In the latest REF (2014) we were ranked in the UK Top 5 for research impact.

About us

At the School of Politics and International Studies (POLIS), our lecturers research real world issues and our programmes cross disciplinary boundaries.

We provide the academic tuition and theoretical training to explore the current challenges of our global society.

With over forty academics, our department is one of the largest of its kind in the UK.

We offer taught MA degree programmes in the areas of Global Development, International Relations and Security, and Politics.

We promote excellence in research in the core disciplines of politics and international studies, and we are committed to promoting interdisciplinary research.

We provide supervisory support across a wide range of specialisms and cross-cutting topics.

World-renowned experts

Our academics interrogate the issues that affect us globally. They pursue a wide range of research specialisms and engage in research that makes impacts across the globe.

Their expertise is recognised globally and their insight is regularly called upon by organisations, governments and the press.

International community

Our vibrant school community unites students and academics from across the globe, allowing a diverse range of perspectives and experiences to come together.

We believe that it is such diversity of opinions and outlooks which create an exciting environment for study at postgraduate level.

Scholarships and funding

We have a range of scholarships available to both UK/EU and international students embarking on a postgraduate taught or postgraduate research programme.
